Who we are

Linda Linda is a principal physicist at the Xoft division of iCAD, working on X-ray sources used for radiation treatment of cancers. For many years, she was an astrophysicist at the University of California Santa Cruz, in the Santa Cruz Institute of Particle Physics, working mostly on the Milagro experiment at Los Alamos National Lab. She received her B.S. from UC Berkeley, worked in the cosmic microwave background radiation group at LBL, and received her PhD from the University of Hawaii working on the Hawaii-Purdue-Wisconsin gamma ray telescope on Haleakala. She has also worked on the Cygnus experiment at Los Alamos, and the E146 experiment at SLAC. In her spare time, she is a member of the board of trustees of the Lakeside school district, and secretary of the board of the Felton Community Hall. Here she is examining a very odd plant we found when building our house.
Ralph Ralph is a software engineer at Google. He spent many years as a research staff member at IBM's Almaden Research Center, working in the Computer Science Storage Systems department, on the Perseus/PERCS project which has turned into the IBM ESS and Lenovo GSS product, and previously the StorageTank project. With several IBM colleagues, he founded Seval Systems, a spin-out of IBM's Kybos and IceCube technology. He received his Diplom from the RWTH Aachen working on the Mark J experiment, and his PhD from the University of Hawaii working on the DUMAND and IMB (Irvine-Michigan-Brookhaven) experiments. He has worked at Stanford's SLAC lab (on the BaBar, E146 and BES experiments), as a software engineer in silicon valley, and in computer science research. He used to play piano (which he studied with Roberto Szidon), and now plays orchestral percussion, mostly in the Ohlone Community Band and the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, plus some symphony orchestras. Here he is having coffee in town with some of his colleagues.
John John has completed Lakeside Elementary School, Rolling Hills Middle School, and Saratoga High School. He now attends De Anza College. His main hobby is music: He's an award-winning contrabass tuba player, participating in many ensembles, in and out of school, including the Ohlone Community Band and the Ohlone Tuba Ensemble. Plus he plays bass tuba, euphonium, and bass trombone. In the past, he played piano, clarinet, and bass clarinet. His main sport is soccer, as both goalkeeper and field player for both West Valley Silver Lightning, and his school teams. He has also played rugby with Santa Clara Youth Rugby and the Palo Alto Seahawks. In this old picture he is showing off some of the apples in his (deer-proofed) garden.

Here is a very old family picture, taken at 1AM on New Year's eve 2002/2003.
New Year 2003

We live on the edge of the San Francisco bay area, in the Santa Cruz mountains, near the town of Los Gatos, on Sunset Ridge Road. That term refers to a closely knit community of nearly a dozen families, and the private road that connects them. To figure out how to get there, follow these directions. It would be a good idea to have a lot of useful information about the Sunset Ridge Road association and community. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten around to that.
