Sunday 17-Aug-2003: Starting to build a retaining wall to fix a
washout on Sunset Ridge Road. Derek and Ralph at the bottom, placing
the first few bricks, while Joe is mixing concrete, with Sheryl and
John looking on.
Saturday 13-Sep-2003: Grandma and John get a ride with Nick in the
troop carrier, on the way to dig a culvert drain on the road.
Recovering a wine tank that was blown onto the road in a heavy storm
last winter (with Grandma, John, Terry and Jim in the picture). The
tank is about 10' or 3m diameter.
Friday, 26-Sep-2003: Wayne, Ralph, and David, after a very successful
week of work at CERN, enjoying the weekend in the Swiss Jura, with
Geneva in the background.
Monday, 29-Sep-2003: First picture is Charles, Ralph and Rainer;
second picture is Ralph, Robert, Wayne and Paul, last picture (much
better quality, from the official CERN photographer) is Ralph and
Wayne.
Tuesday, 30-Sep-2003 through 11-Oct-2004: Vacation in Krefeld. First
picture is Lukas, David and John watching TV. Second picture is lots
of kids harvesting potatoes behind a horse-drawn plow. Third and
fourth pictures are Linda and Karin having to carry the potatoes the
kids harvest. Then John visits the wild pigs in the park, and the
elephants in the zoo. Then the three boys play on the rocks in the
zoo, with Karin and Grandpa looking on. Finally, John swims in the
pool.
Wednesday, 29-Oct-2003: John's Halloween costume is a race car driver
(real suit and helmet courtesy of Terry and Cole).
The digital camera was sick for a few months.
Thursday, 11-Dec-2003: Decorated Christmas tree (as usual, organically grown).
Saturday, 20-Dec-2003: Cutting a Christmas tree.
Sunday, 21-Dec-2003: At the Oregon Coast Aquarium: John in the shark's
mouth, and petting fish.
Tuesday, 23-Dec-2003: John and Bunny play with the model railroad
around the tree.
Thursday, 25-Dec-2003: John brings presents to Uncle Ed (who can't
walk), and unpacks his own:
Sunday 28-Dec-2003: Splitting firewood with the rented log splitter
(note that it is very unsafe to have someone else operate the
hydraulics):
Sunday 08-Feb-2004: John and the other kids from childcare went
bowling for Markus' 3rd birthday:
Saturday 06-Mar-2004: We're beginning the basement construction in
earnest. Here is most of the lumber needed for the interior walls:

Friday, 16-Apr-2004: The concrete cutout for the larger window in the
basement playroom, the last cut, then immediately after it was cut out
of the wall.
